Does your church desire to join Jesus in caring for one another, making time to listen to one another’s stories without judgment, on a journey to healing and deeper freedom in Jesus?

If so, healing groups are a wonderful resource to consider.

1. What is a healing group?

A healing group is designed to be a safe place where participants are able to share the pain of their hearts, listen to others’ pain, as well as walk alongside one another in their healing journeys. The overall goal is to help people find healing and become more resilient. This approach to healing of heart wounds combines Biblical principles with mental health best practices. It has been used effectively worldwide and is one of many resources out there that is simple and reproducible within your congregation among lay leaders. Think of it as first responders when folks in your church are seeking healing in their hearts and minds. It is in no way a substitute for professional counseling or therapy. It is one way the church can be the hands and feet of Jesus to one another in each others’ healing journeys.

2. Who can join?

Anyone is welcome to join whether you have a personal relationship with Jesus or not so long as you are open to reading the Bible together and praying.

3. When will we meet?

Typically once a week over 7 weeks. 2 hours each meeting. Can be in-person or virtual over Zoom.

4. What topics will be covered in the healing group?

We cover the six core lessons from the Trauma Healing Institute’s curriculum, Healing the Wounds of Trauma

The six lessons are:

  • Lesson 1: Introduction + “What is a wound of the heart?”
  • Lesson 2: What can help our heart wounds heal?
  • Lesson 3: What happens when someone is grieving?
  • Lesson 4: If God loves us, why do we suffer?
  • Lesson 5:  Bringing our pain to the cross.
  • Lesson 6: How can we forgive others?
